The ASD is the umbrella organization of the school management associations in the federal states of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is independent of the type of school, school level and national borders.

Despite the cultural sovereignty of the federal states, there is a common basic pedagogical concept that sees the young person as the subject of instruction and education at the center of a clearly structured school community. It was founded in 1983.
