This is ESHA

ESHA, the European School Heads Association, is a professional organisation for European School Heads. Members of ESHA are national organisations for school heads and deputy school heads within (pre-)primary, secondary and vocational education. Nearly all European countries (both EU and non-EU) are represented within ESHA by one or more organisations.

The funding and means of existence of ESHA is based on membership fees, members (voluntary) participations and income from (participating in) various (European) projects.

What we do

ESHA maintains an international network for European school leaders through 38 member organizations in 26 European countries representing 120,000 school leaders.

  • We share and participate in European education research projects to support school leaders on topics such as digitization, diversity & inclusion, arts education, science education and parent engagement.

  • We make policy recommendations to support the needs of school leaders.

  • Every two years we host a major conference for school leaders: the biennial ESHA Conference.

Benefits for school heads

If you are affiliated with one of our member organizations, you can also benefit from the membership. This is what ESHA can do for you:

  • Help you to expand your personal network and learn from other European school leaders during projects, training days, networking and conferences.
  • Let you benefit from up-to-date knowledge and good practices from European research on topics of current interest.
  • Strengthen your professional knowledge with freely accessible tools and trainings.
  • Represent your interests in European organisations and networks.

Becoming a member of ESHA

Only associations of school heads can apply for membership in ESHA. Each application must be validated by the ESHA board. ESHA is an association which means that our members jointly decide on the strategy. All member associations have a vote at the General Assembly which is organized twice a year. If there is no school heads association in an EC country, individuals can contact the organisation to explore the possibilities.

Apply for membership

On behalf of all our members we would be delighted to welcome your organisation as a member of the European School Heads Association. For more information about membership, please send an e-mail to info@esha.org.
