Intercultural Learning

1-10- 2016 to 30-11- 2018

Focus Empowering the young with social innovation skills.

The multicultural society has inevitably led to the coexistence of people from different worlds and with mentalities, traditions and habits that may diverge significantly from those to which we usually refer. The multicultural reality has not yet been accepted by all and even less valued. So we need to find those roads that can promote the growth of an open mentality able to welcome diversity and to create a real intercultural dimension. (Serena Sani, 2015)

The main mission of the Intercultural Learning for pupils and students project is to provide tools to promote intercultural learning in order to prepare pupils for living in diverse societies and working in a global labour market.

Assumed deliverables

Organisational Change Model (The whole school approach): Based upon formal change management models, the authors have developed an educational change management model that can be used by school leaders. The model focuses on the most important steps to implement change in a school. It takes into account all necessary areas where change is needed and all processes that must be affected by change.

The model aims to provide the theoretical background and the practical know-how to transparently plan, implement and evaluate complex change processes in schools and gives insight into the following barriers to the successful implementation educational innovation:

  • Vision and strategy: the ability to create a common understanding of the schools’ identity
  • Leadership
  • Community involvement
  • The ability to accept change and facilitate change acceptance
  • The ability to allocate sufficient resources.

Classroom Activities

The consortium partners aim at supporting teachers in including intercultural learning in all subjects at school. The classroom activities are published in the Toolbox at the website of the project. The Toolbox promotes a method to include an intercultural dimension to the educating practices, and provides examples of activities to implement for this purpose. The Toolbox is available in English, French, German and Italian.

The brochure of the Toolbox can be downloaded here (scroll down for the download button)
